Red Pine: Red Pine (aka Bill Porter) is one of the world's foremost translators of Chinese poetry and religious texts. He was born in Los Angeles in 1943, grew up in the Idaho Panhandle, served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army, graduated from the University of California with a degree in anthropology, and attended graduate school at Columbia University. Uninspired by the prospect of an academic career, he dropped out of Columbia and moved to a Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. After four years with the monks and nuns, he struck out on his own and eventually found work at English-language radio stations in Taiwan and Hong Kong, where he interviewed local dignitaries and produced more than a thousand programs about his travels in China.

He leaves his father and his people behind and starts all over, and his gamble looks like it will pay off as his people become less and less tainted. Only the pine and chocolate chip cookie scents are still there. A beautifully illustrated book but thin in content. Although this book is filled with scientific information, I as a non-scientist found it very easy to understand and use. Block is well-respected tax attorney and this guide is well-written, packed with facts, and organized in a way that makes it easy to use. Love the book. Why do I like this book? It assumes you can wing it on some of the algebra and glosses the trig and logarithmic stuff to get to the brass tacks derivatives and anti-derivatives (integrals).
In simple notation and examples it explains and emphasizes the use of limits to derive the calculus, gives examples and a good dose of exercises WITH ALL ANSWERS in the back!!!
