Marc "Animal" MacYoung knows the ins and outs of American violence. He is the author of many books and has appeared in countless videos on street violence and self-defense for Paladin. Reading his books and watching his videos will save you a lot of hassles and a lot of hurt.
He's good yes, but there's a guy just like him in half the bars between New York and LA. It is a reference book for someone who needs to have in-depth information on the subject, and in this respect it is superb.
On the down side, it deals only with British practice, and only with square-rigged ships, but then that is the remit of the title.
I used this book as the main reference for rigging my model of HMS Unicorn of 1745, and I beleive that the rigging is now as acurate as I could reasonably make it and far better than the original kit instructions would have allowed.. It describes poses well and tells you when it is appropriate to do them, trimester-wise.
The book does allude to some yogic philosophy (NOT religion; yoga is a science, not a religion), but for a serious practitioner of yoga this is actually good -- so many yoga books and videos don't even bother to acknowledge yoga's long-standing history!. His body was found in the Ozark woodland, next to a torched van
