A slim but informative introduction to Umberto Eco's work in philology and semiotics, Gary Radford's "On Eco" belongs to the Wadsworth Philosopher Series. Fair warning – there are dark and disturbing scenes, which might cause discomfort to some readers. The important take-away of that book is how children's and teen's brains are wired to respond to perceived stress and threats, including that posed by how we as parents interact with our kids when we get angry and punitive. The last chapter on Liquid Crystals by J. Holy freaking crap!! This book caused me to throw my kindle across the room. The pruning allows for specialization of function within brain regions and allows neurons with to "fire" and "wire" together creating associations to learn new information and hone new skills. This book helps fill that gap, but it also gives the reader a good idea of how much more there is to know to be really good at this hobby.. Just as described. Received in good condition..
